The Olympics! Ancient, Modern and Present Day

Reading DLO

Hello bloggers around the world๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ‘ˆ, today I am blogging about my Reading DLO. In my post about my Olympics work I said a new book would be coming to this blog. And today is the day! For this we had two WALT's, they were Summarising and Synthesising. Our success criteria was was to find important information about our question; How have the Olympic Games changed from the Ancient Games to the Modern Games to the Present Day Games. I decided to make a book about "The History of the Olympics". My favourite part was making the cover because it has lots of different pictures. I liked seeing how the Olympics have changed over time. It is not yet finished but will be soon. Click on the picture below to read my book.

Y6 Visit to Waikowhai Intermediate

 Y6 Visit to Waikowhai Intermediate

Hello bloggers around the world๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ‘ˆ, today I am blogging about my visit to Waikowhai Intermediate. Yesterday all the Year Sixes went on a bus to Waikowhai Intermediate. When we arrived we went to the hall. Then we heard from Mr King, the principal. After that we saw the year 7 & 8 k-pop dance and the chior. They were both really good. Soon after that we went for a walk around to see all the classes. It was really cool. After that we walked backed to the bus. Overall the visit to Waikowhai Intermediate was really fun. I went for a visit because that will be my school next year. I am really exicted to go to Waikowhai Intermediate next year. Are you going to Intermediate next year?

Olympics Work

 Olympics Work

Hello bloggers around the world๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘ˆ, this week we have been learning and doing tasks around the Olympics. These tasks have been in Inquiry, Writing and Reading. We have learnt that the summer Olympics are held every four years. We have also been keeping track of how many Medals New Zealand has. We have watched the Swimming, Rugby Sevens and the Rowing. I am looking forward to watch the Shotput with Valerie Adams! Below is an explanation of each activity.

The first task I will talk about is our Inquiry work. We have been doing two different tasks. The first was a slideshow with all the sports logos on it. We had to identify which sport was which. It was a fun challenge. Then we had to pick one of those sports to do an investigation on. I chose the Modern Pentathlon. I chose it because I had never even heard of the sport. My investigation is not quite done however it is looking pretty good. Below is both pieces of work.

Next I will talk about the work we have been doing in Writing. In Writing we have been working on two things. The first is a sport profile on an Olympian. For this we had to pick an olympian an reaserch stuff about them. I chose Armand Duplantis. He is a Swedish Pole Vaulter. Then we had to find an historic Olympian in the same sport. I chose Don Bragg. Making the profile was fun and I enjoyed it. Our other task was a distruptions activity. We had to figure out why the Olympics had been distrupted or cancelled in the past. It was a very fun activity but some of the reasons are grim. Below are all three pieces of work.

The last acitivty I will be talking about today is my Reading Work. I don't have much to say as this is still a work in progress. What I can say is that a new book is coming to this blog soon! Make sure you watch out for it!

Overall the Olympics is a really cool event. I hope you watch it! Go Team New Zealand!

Procedural Writing

Procedural Writing

Hello bloggers around the world๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘ˆ, today I am posting about procedural writing. Procedural writing is when you write a piece of text that explains how to do something. For our writing we had to choose a game. I chose Wizards. If you don't know what Wizards is don't worry I will explain later.

When we did our writing I learnt how to write a procedural text. First you need to add the title. Then add a little description of the game. After that write what you need. Following that you will need to number your steps in order. Also its a good idea for them to start with verbs. After that we added a diagram. Afterwards we transferred it to a google doc.

I think that I did a good job explaining how to play Wizards. Wizards is a really fun game. Below are two (the plan and the doc) procedural text explaining how to play Wizards. The text is linked on the pictures.

Waikowhai Student Led Toolkits

 STEM Week Student Led Toolkits

Hello bloggers around the world๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘ˆ, last week on Friday we hosted our own student led toolkits. We did it as part of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) week. For those of you who don't know what student led toolkits is here is a quick explanation. Basically other people show you different online tools you can use. Then you get 15 minutes to try it out. For our student led toolkts we had three sessions. We filled in a google form to pick our toolkits. Below is a explanation of the three toolkits that I attended.

For my first session I had to present. We were showing them how to look at different planets in google maps and journey planner. Even though I had presented at the Ako Hiko Toolkits I still felt really nervous. However in the end me and Mahdi managed to do it. It was a little bit hard to get all the kids to listen but was pretty fun. Sadly I couldn't find any photos. However below is the slideshow is you guys want to learn yourself.

For my second session I had to present (again). This time is was a lot more fun. One of the people even asked if the moon was made of cheese! The results were a little bit confusing. One source said it was and the other said it was made of rock and metal. Anyway it was overall much easier to get them to listen because we knew what we were doing.

For the third and final session I was supposed to do drones however they were not charging so I had to do Sphero's instead (which I didn't mind). Once Cole & Caleb showed us how to use them we had to get into groups of 3 or 4. In my group was Me, Aley, Bostyn and Elisa. We tried to lauch the sphero up a ramp sevral times and failed ๐Ÿ˜‚. Then we drove it all along the court. We even raced them (and won). When we had to take them back we drove our at top speed the whole way. The sphero's were soooooo much fun. Below are some photos.

Overall I found toolkits super fun. My favourite session was the sphero because it was really fun trying to get it up the ramp. I also liked presenting. Have you ever had Student Led Toolkits at your school?
