Corbans Estate Trip

Aloha, Kia Orana, Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Ora Blogger's

Yesterday (Wednesday 13th November.) rooms Mokoroa, Kaiwhare and Haumia went to the Pacifica Arts Centre at Corbans Estate to work with the Pacifica Mamas. They taught us lots about Pasifika Culture.

When we arrived there we were greeted by Auntie Tu who is from the Cook Islands. We then walked into the Pacifica Arts Centre. Then we greeted Auntie Tu with "Kia Orana" Mama Mata with "Aloha" Auntie Jacinda (not the prime minister) with "Talofa Lava" and Fox with "Malo e lelei".  Then we split into 2 groups.

I was in  group 1 which meant I had to do drumming first. Then we swapped over and did lei making. Mama Mata gave us our 101 recipe for a lei. The way we did it was we got a string with a knot at the end the we placed a reused fabric flower, then straw, then flower, then straw until we mostly finished. Then one of the Mamas came and tied the end up. We then learnt the Hula.

So I learnt lots and lots of information about Pasifika Culture. I learnt 'hello' and 'thank you' in different languages, how to play the long drum, how to make a lei even how to do the hula. I definitely recommend going at some point in your life. If you want the address here it is.

  4. Very interesting, thanks! I'm glad you clarified "Auntie Jacinda" wasn't the prime minister, as that could have been confusing otherwise. Good work.

    2. Thanks Mum
I know, I put in Auntie Jacinda so that if Daddy or anyone else looked at it they wouldn't get mixed up!
